Decibels Navigation2021Installation during the group show New Songs for Old Cities at Netwerk Aalst.

Décibels Navigation was developed at the Frans Masereel Centre in Kasterlee, 2020. The title refers to the tension between the sound of the machines at the Centre and the sonic landscape of the surrounding woods. The work consists of four hammered copper plates with engravings, printed foils, and a steel chair sculpture, Banza Mambu.

The ancestral reference Banza-Mambu in Kinkongo invites viewers to reflect on problems by sitting on a chair that obliges them to lift their eyes towards the sky. The sitting position is inspired by the tomb of the Pharaoh, where the dead ruler is compelled to look at a ceiling inscribed with instructions guiding the soul towards eternity.

Décibels Navigation was inspired by DONNE MOI TA FORME , an installation that was created initially for the 5th Biennale of Lubumbashi., 2017.
